FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

1

What is coaching for teenagers and young adults?

Coaching is a structured, forward-looking process that helps young people pinpoint what's holding them back and build practical tools to move forward. Rather than dwelling on the past, we focus on where your teenager or young person wants to go and what's standing in the way. In practice, that means exploring the thoughts, beliefs, and patterns keeping them stuck. We work at their own pace.

2

How is it different to counseling?

Counselling typically focuses on processing past traumas or emotional history. ADHD coaching is future-focused. For teenagers, this typically means one-on-one sessions focused on building practical, real-world skills

Coaching is not a substitute for therapy, and I'd never present it as one. If it becomes clear during our work that a teenager needs a higher level of clinical support, I'll say so.

3

What are the benefits of coaching?

  • Builds learning skills, not just subject help: Coaches focus on helping students develop systems that stick, acting as accountability partners rather than tutors.

  • Eases tension at home: When a coach takes on day-to-day task management, parents step back from the nagging role—and household conflict often follows.

  • Tailored to the individual: ADHD looks different for everyone, so coaching meets each teen where they are and lets them progress at their own pace.

4
